Together we're more – can a sense of community transform the future of rental living?

Sense of community in rental living

Welcome to Joo Kodit’s Community Manager Hanna's new blog series. Over the coming year, we’ll share inspiring ideas, engaging conversations, and practical actions. Whether you’re one of our residents, a partner, or just curious about the concept of community, this blog is for you.

"When I first started at Joo Kodit, I immediately sensed there was something special about this workplace. The sense of community was almost tangible. Over time, I began to wonder if we could bring that same feeling to our residents. Could we create places to live where people feel part of something bigger, neighbours become friends, and everyone has the opportunity to shape their environment?

In this blog series, I’ll be sharing updates on our community-focused projects at Joo Kodit. These posts will take a closer look at how we’re building a sense of community and how that shows in our everyday work. You might even find ideas and inspiration to use in your own networks. So, dear reader, I’m delighted you found your way here!

Who am I?

This blog is written by Hanna-Maria. I’m the Community Manager at Joo Kodit. So, what does a Community Manager actually do? That's something you'll find out in this blog.

Experiences, customer interactions, and genuine connections with both new and familiar faces are incredibly important to me. My role at Joo Kodit is wonderfully varied. I have the opportunity to draw on my previous experience in hotels, restaurants, and catering, while also learning something new every day. And that, along with being part of the world's best work community, is what makes this job so special!

What's in store next year?

In my blog series for 2025, I’ll explore what a sense of community means in rental living, the role of a Community Manager, opportunities for co-creation, as well as our residents' events and their purpose here at Joo Kodit. Our team is eager to discover whether fostering a sense of community can help shape the future of rental living while enhancing our residents' experience. We believe that a strong sense of community can make renting so much more than simply putting a roof over your head.

Getting our residents' voices heard

This autumn, we launched a residents' survey about the sense of community. We want to hear our residents’ thoughts on how to make our community an even better place. Early results highlighted the role of daily interactions, even something as simple as saying hello. Small gestures, like holding the door open for a neighbour, might seem insignificant, but they can feel very important to someone else. Together, we really are more, and with these small actions, we can build a sense of community around us.

As the year winds down, we’ll be hosting Christmas parties for our residents in several locations. We’ll also be getting together virtually at Joo Cooking Club, a fun event for everyone who enjoys good food, shared activities, and a healthy dose of festive cheer. During the evening, you’ll be able to pick up tips, cook at your own pace in your home kitchen, and create some easy and delicious Christmas tapas. Invitations will be emailed to residents soon, so keep an eye on your inbox!

I hope you'll follow my blog next year! I wish you a warm and magical Christmas and a bubbly, happy New Year!
